The Dell computer company is known the world over for its quality computers, used by homes and businesses. Dell is a relatively new company, founded in 1984 by its namesake, Michael Dell, in his college dorm lodgings. Michael Dell later dropped out of college to focus on his fledgling company. He believed in selling high-quality products that included stellar customer service and this belief led to his company being a giant in the computer industry. His original unique selling proposition of building computers to customer specifications led to enormous growth.

The Dell computer company grew rather quickly over the next couple of decades, becoming publicly traded in 1987 and building manufacturing facilities that allowed the company to produce computers on a large scale. Dell has been known for selling computers with either the Linux or Windows operating systems. For a time, Dell became a private company but recently is once again publicly traded.

Early in this century, Dell expanded its offerings to include other electronics, such as digital cameras and TVs. The company has also purchased and merged with other related companies, allowing them to expand their offerings further and to produce state-of-the art electronics. The company has embraced the use of technology to increase sales, such as utilizing the Internet to reach potential consumers. The company embraced the use of social media and cell phones to attract and lure customers, and this process was extremely successful. Dell is always looking for new and unique ways to produce and sell custom computers and electronics to the masses.
