As the COVID-19 virus continues to wreak havoc upon the world, Instagram has decided to embrace social distancing via their new video chat feature.

In an effort to combat the COVID-19 virus, Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to video chat together while scrolling through posts. According to The Verge, the new feature is designed to enable physical, social distancing, and enable virtual communication and collaboration.

The new feature goes alongside Instagram’s new policies aimed towards decreasing the spread of false information and propaganda. The policies put in place are also being held up by Facebook, Instagram’s parent company.

The new video chat feature not only lets users chat with one another in a Facetime styled application, but allows users to scroll the posts together. Users will be able to view saved photos, liked photos, and even recommended photos together. Social distancing has been solved! You no longer need to meet up at the beach or in the park to see your friends. Just hop onto Instagram!

Alongside the features, rollout is a new educational alert system. The system runs on Instagram and is designed to give users easy access to information being posted by the World Health Organization (WHO). Alongside this feature, moderators are enforcing policy rules and legislation far more than before.

ombat the spread of false media and propaganda, Instagram has set up a system intent upon fact checking all information that goes through their site. If posts are deemed to be fake or over-exaggerated, Instagram’s moderation team will remove them indefinitely.
